What is the sense of BIM? Even when we got everything built in the virtual world in an intricately detailed manner, we still miss some aspects to make it come true. Living in the era of information consumption, in construction we need to get a model with a plenty of systematized and easy-to-understand information inside each element which takes days or even weeks of routine work of engineers. That’s where BIM starts.

Dynamo and a bit of Python

Nowadays, every second person faces the need to receive and process as much information in one month, as the 17th century person did in his/her entire life. But the good news of our time is – we can delegate it to machines. That’s why when all piping is done, all forms are defined, collisions are solved, there is no more work left for engineers but for codes. Thanks to Dynamo and a bit of Python, we can quickly and easily set up some scripts that would fill thousands of pieces of information in a matter of seconds, killing the routine and leaving for the engineer the intellectual work only.

MEP openings

If you would look through some elements, for example MEP openings, you will definitely notice that the built-in data is not enough. In most cases it would be missing such essential parameters as elevation, building department and all of the data about its host. Should it be located in slab, beam, concrete wall or masonry wall? There is no such data on the surface but also there are no obstacles to extract it from model, and here is one of the samples of its realization by TEBIN.

This and many other efficient solutions – that’s where BIM makes progress!
